I don't know what this quilt needs... It just doesn't look right to me. I am going to add more borders but I am not sure of the color, print... I kind of wish I had sashed it in blue or a brighter color. However I am NOT seam ripping. I guess I am not crazy about it because it was not the coordinating colors I usually like due to the birthstone colors...
I need some ideas, oh and I want to be completely done by tomorrow ;0 HELP

Okay, I know NOTHING about quilting but I just had to say that I happen to think it looks great.
I think it looks great too. It isn't coordinating colors, but having them doesn't really go along with the "theme" of the quilt. Too bad you weren't all born in the same three months! :)
Have you tried putting a final border on it that has some or most of the colors of the quilt? That may tie it all together. It looks wonderful--she's going to love it!
I LOVE the idea of this quilt. It came out really pretty and was a heck of alot cheaper than giving her jewelry with all those precious stones. ;)
About the sashing...It would take a little more effort, but you could put a line of darker color (maybe the garnet?) down each side of the sashing. Of hand I can come up with 2 ways to do it:
1) satin stitich with colored thread or
2) zig-zag over fine cording (the technique is called couching, I think) You could do this before or after you sandwich the quilt. Before would probably be easier.
But if you decide to do nothing, I think it looks really pretty as is. And like Caryn said, the theme was much more important here.
She'll love it!
